Vulcano is one of the most recently formed islands in the Eolie Archipelago, together with Stromboli, formed even later. The beaches such as Sabbie Nere, of fine black volcanic sand, are very popular and lie in the natural bay on the western side. The beach of Porto Levante is much frequented as here the sea has hot bubbly areas which are used for the treatment of sinusitis and skin ailments. The view from Lentia in the north west of the island is really spectacular as you can see all the other islands as well as Mount Etna.
