LATIUM

The capital of the region is the so called “Eternal City” and the capital of Italy, but not only, as it is also the capital of the Christian religion, the Papal Seat being in Rome. It is, of course, a place rich in artistic and architectural masterpieces, as is the whole region of Latium and also from the naturalistic and environmental aspect. The landscape changes from beaches to pinewoods, from hills to mountains, from estensive plains to the lakes. We would also like to guide you through the other major cities and archeological and monumental sites in the whole of Latium. The highest mountains in Latium lie in the eastern part of the region where the Laga Mountains reach a height of 2458 m at the peak of Mount Gorzano. These are a small part of the Apennines that stretch diagonally from north to south. Here we also find the ranges of the Reatini Mountains, the Sabini Mountains, the Simbruini Mountains and the Ernici Mountains. In the middle of southern Latium, starting from the Colli Albani, lie a series of other mountain ranges running parallel to the Apennines; these are the Lepini Mountains, the Ausoni Mountains and the Aurunci Mountains.
